Hindus have been a target of hate crimes in the United States for some time, Shri Thanedar, at the forefront of protests against the increasing hatred against Hindus observed in that country, said today. Shri Thanedar is an Indian-American legislator.
Thanedar has once again issued a warning about the increase in attacks against Hindus and Hinduism in the US. The Indian-American lawmaker said this was just the “beginning of planned anti-Hindu attacks”.
Lawmaker Shri Thanedar told reporters at a press conference held at the National Press Club, “I am seeing a significant increase in attacks on Hindutva in America. Disinformation is being spread online and through other means.”
Thanedar and four other Indian-American lawmakers Ro Khanna, Raja Krishnamurthy, Amy Bera and Pramila Jayapal recently wrote to United States’ Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke, protesting against the recent spate of attacks on Hindu temples and other community centres and requesting the authority to investigate the hate crimes.
Speaking at the press conference organised by non-profit Hindu Action, Thanedar said that no action had been taken against those responsible for the hate crimes and no arrests had been made so far: “We have seen a lot of such incidents in recent months. I think this is the beginning of a conspiracy against this community. In such a situation, the community should stand together. The time has come and I stand with you.”
Thanedar said, “Being a follower of Hinduism, having grown up as a Hindu in a Hindu family, I know what Hinduism is. It is a very peaceful religion.” He said Hinduism was not a religion that would attack others.
